Scars Healing - What products help?

Scar formation is a natural part of the scars healing process that occurs when the skin repairs wounds caused by accident, surgery or disease. The amount of time skin takes to heal and remodel a scar will vary depending on the degree of damage as well as genetic and other factors. The longer it takes to mature, the greater the chance of a noticeable scar.

It is important to know that scarring is considered to be the final stage of wound healing and all - partial thickness and full thickness wounds - will form scars, but not all of the scars will become abnormal scars. , “Scar” refers to the new skin and tissue that the body generated to close the wound.  Scar remodeling, the process by which a scar assumes its final size, color, and feel, can take up to two years. Abnormal scars can form soon after wound closure (hypertrophic scars) or even months later (keloids).

There are products that complement and support the scars healing process.  Kelo-cote® is a patented topical silicone gel for the management and prevention of abnormal scars in the form of hypertrophic scars and keloids.

Kelo-cote® rapidly dries to form a ultra thin custom fitted silicone sheet; this silicone gel sheet layer is transparent, gas permeable, flexible and waterproof. Kelo-cote® forms a bond with the stratum corneum (the outer layer of dead skin cells) forming a protective barrier against chemical, physical and microbial invasion of the scar site while assisting with hydration. This creates an environment that allows the scar to mature through more normalized collagen synthesis cycles, and improves the physiological and cosmetic appearance of the scar.

Regardless of the origin or age of the scar, Kelo-cote® consistently delivers proven results, as evidenced by clinical studies and  satisfied healthcare professionals and customers from around the world.  Kelo-cote® is the most studied topical scar product, with more than 2,000 patients participating in a variety of published clinical studies.

Many patients and physicians have testified that Kelo-cote® Advanced Scar Therapy solution helps to soften, flatten and smooth the scar while maintaining the moisture balance and elasticity of the adjacent skin. It isn’t smelly or slimy like some other products on the market.

Kelo-cote® Gel is available in tubes of 6g (0.2 oz), 15g (0.5 oz) and 60g (2 oz). Our patented Kelo-cote® Spray, developed for the treatment of larger, sensitive, painful or hard to reach scars, is available in cans of 50 ml and 100 ml. Kelo-cote® has been cleared by the FDA as a Class 1 510(k) medical device.  Whether gel or spray, Kelo-cote® Advanced Scar Therapy solutions help to reduce abnormal scars and restore confidence.

Kelo-cote® should be used to help the healing process for abnormal scars such as Keloids or hypertrophic scarring or those obtained from Burns, Plastic surgery, Breast reduction, Caesarian sections, Mastectomy, Mohs surgery, Hysterectomy, Body piercing or Cleft lip corrective procedures.
