Keloid Removal - What are my options?

Many people who have a keloid want to know about products for keloid removal. Scars are often considered trivial, yet abnormal scars can be aesthetically distressing, disfiguring as well as psychosocially and functionally disabling.1,2 Keloids can be particularly distressing as they are thick, rounded, irregular clusters of scar tissue that are often very noticeable.

Is it possible that a topical product can be used for keloid removal?  No topical products are able to get rid of or remove a scar completely. If a product is making a claim that it can remove a keloid, one should be skeptical.

However, clinical studies have shown that using Kelo-cote® for 90 days will significantly improve the appearance of existing keloid scars, as well as help new scars to stay flat and soft as they mature.1,3,4

Kelo-cote® is a patented topical silicone gel for the management and prevention of abnormal scars in the form of hypertrophic scars and keloids.

People of African, Asian, and Latin descent are genetically more prone to keloid formation.  If you are prone to keloid scar formation, it is advisable to use Kelo-cote® after any surgery, trauma, or burn to promote normal scar maturation and prevent the formation of a keloid scar.

Kelo-cote® gel self-dries to a waterproof, ultra thin and gas permeable membrane that acts like an extra layer of skin. It helps to soften, flatten and smooth the scar while maintaining the moisture balance and elasticity of the adjacent skin. It has also been shown to reduce the discoloration and itching associated with keloid scars.1,3,4

The Siliclear Complex™ is the foundation of Kelo-cote® scar treatment products; it refers to our patented combination of silicone ingredients including long chain polymer liquid, volatile, and solid silicones.  This precise formula, combined with a highly specialized manufacturing process, transforms these ingredients into our highly effective scar treatment gels and spray.

Kelo-cote® Gel is available in tubes of 6g (0.2 oz), 15g (0.5 oz) and 60g (2 oz). Our patented Kelo-cote® Spray, developed for the treatment of larger, sensitive, painful or hard to reach scars, is available in cans of 50 ml and 100 ml. Kelo-cote® has been cleared by the FDA as a Class 1 510(k) medical device.  Whether gel or spray, Kelo-cote® Advanced Scar Therapy solutions help to reduce abnormal scars and restore confidence.

As mentioned, Kelo-cote® can help scarring from surgery, trauma or burns but can also help flatten or soften keloids from, for instance, body piercing or growth removal.
