The first choice in scar management
It is suggested by several studies that silicone gel sheets have been proven to work due to their semi-occlusive nature. Kelo-cote® works in the same way as other silicone gel sheets, however its unique formulation ensures that on application, an ultra thin layer of silicone binds to the top layer of the skin (stratum corneum) forming a durable sheet.
This ultra thin waterproof sheet increases the hydration of the stratum corneum but also allows the skin underneath to breathe. The thinner the layer, the more durable the material will be and the better the breathability. If Kelo-cote® is applied too thick then this reaction will take too long and the gel will remain sticky.
Because Kelo-cote® binds to the stratum corneum, the contact time of the silicon gel is maximized. Coupled with the ease of application, this ensures much greater patient compliance to the therapy. Kelo-cote®, unlike other silicone gel sheets, does not cause maceration*, pruritus** or promone localized infections.
- * Maceration: when the skin becomes pale, moist, wrinkled and soggy,
such as when a plaster has been on for too long
** Pruritus: Irritation of the skin, which makes a patient want to scratch (itching)
Kelo-cote® is also used for the management of scars resulting from breast augmentation,
breast reduction, breast implants and other boob jobs.
